A week or two abroad every year is a tradition most of us can’t wait for. The longer a holiday lasts, the better! But it seems juggling busy lives means more and more holidaymakers are keeping their trips away short and sweet.
So if your time is precious, spend it well. Say hello to a three, four or five night villa break. The perfect complement to hectic schedules, villa short breaks are easy to squeeze in and blissfully restful – from home to poolside in just a few hours.
You’d be surprised just how much ‘R and R’ you can lap up in a few days when living the villa lifestyle!
Powdery white sands and idyllic seascapes make Menorca famously special. The sun shines, of course, but that’s just the first of many offerings this island delights its visitors with. Menorca’s local people revel in their laid back way of life, and it’s infectious. A few days on the island is enough to embrace the way of live and return home with a renewed sense of perspective. It’s not all siestas and “mañana” attitudes though! Pick up the pace with water sports, tennis, horse riding and fishing. Menorca has an active side that’s a fit for all the family. During the summer months every village bounces in celebration of its annual fiesta. The liveliest being the San Joan fiesta of Ciutadella – three days of eating, drinking and dancing.
The Algarve is a friend to everyone looking for some rest and relaxation, however long you stay. If you choose Albufeira as your playground for a long weekend it won’t disappoint. One of Portugal’s most famous resorts (for good reason), here you’ll find the golden sand beach, an abundance of tasty restaurants and a marina offering up boat tours to explore the local caves. For a few fun filled days, it’s all here! But if you didn’t explore further however, you’d be missing out. Hop in the hire car and head for Vilamoura and its neighbouring trio of towns – Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Almancil.
Subtropical temperatures, dreamy beaches and outdoor pursuits await for those who pick Tenerife for a flying visit. A mini-holiday indeed, dose yourself up with some vitamin D under the glow of this Canarian idyll. There’s no shortage of things to do for those who can bear to leave the sunlounger. By day, inject some fun and make a splash at one of the aqua parks, cruise the coast on a boat tour or pay a visit to the dormant volcano Mount Teide. And as night falls you can set the tempo for your evening entertainment. Delightful restaurants and bars keep it low key in the resorts of Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz, while the bustle of Playa de las Americas satisfies the partygoers.
Costa del Sol
Golden sands, blue waters and a warm welcome puts the Costa del Sol well and truly on the map. Every holiday here is different, as visitors take their pick from the varied goings on to tailor make the perfect break. While you could easily fill a two week sun-drenched stay on the Costa del Sol, the Blue Flag beaches, top waterparks and a round of golf are a must on any short break itinerary. Oh, there’s plenty of time for a few glasses of Sangria too!
