Psst… Touring with little ones? Pack a portable BubbleBum booster seat so everyone can take in those sublime sights!

Lovely scenic routes combined with quiet and modern roads make for travelling bliss! So as we celebrate 35 years of James Villas, be sure to buckle up and hit the LZ Highways in our first ever holiday destination!

Jameos del Agua

Natural water pool, blue skies and palm trees at Jameos del Agua

Head to Jameos del Agua in the north of the island and be prepared to be wowed by the beautiful salt lagoon and impressive underground caves! With plenty of road signs directing you to this cultural attraction you’ll have no trouble finding this impressive wonder. And boy will it be worth the journey! Celebrating the work of local architect César Manrique, this volcanic landscape is designed around two caves, one just as spectacular as the last.

Hidden within the first cave is a natural lake boasting crystal clear water. Home to species only native to Lanzarote, you may come across an albino crab along the way! The second is designed as a large concert hall, where you can enjoy a magical night out in this beautiful and unique location. Events usually include a tasty dinner, so if you’re looking for something special to celebrate an occasion then this can be added to your wish-list!

Timanfaya National Park to La Geria

Iconic sign at the entrance of Lanzarote's Timanfaya National Park, home to the fire mountains

If the thought of seeing what years of volcanic activity looks like on the surface has you bubbling with excitement, then a trip to Timanfaya National Park is a must! You’ll drive inside the park right up to where the restaurant is and from there hop on a bus for a ride through the volcanic terrain. From exploring the one hundred year old craters to the breathtaking active geysers of the Fire Mountains, this experience is out of this world! While the volcano beneath is inactive, be prepared to still feel its heat as temperatures of 400°C-600°C can be found just below the surface!

From a sizzling excursion to something a little more chilled. Take the LZ-67 and LZ-30 roads and drive the short distance to La Geria to sample some of Lanzarote’s finest wines. While the driver may not be able to taste the tipples there and then, you can purchase a bottle in one of the local bodegas to take back to your villa and enjoy by the pool! Plus seeing the volcanic ash landscape of La Geria valley still makes the trip worthwhile!

El Gofo to Papagayo beaches

Golden sands and azure waters at Papagayo beach

Seeking breathtaking beaches on your travels? With a choice of light and dark sands you’ll be treated to an array of idyllic shores – all just as breathtaking as the next. When it comes to charcoal beaches it doesn’t get any better than El Gofo’s Charco de los Clicos. Its combination of black sands, red rocks and of course the famous Green Lagoon makes for a vibrant holiday snapshot! From here head along the coast and enjoy a scenic route to the captivating Los Hervideros. Taking the L7-703 section, you’ll love how the road curves around the coastline framed by deep blue sky, crushing waves and lava landscape. A visit here is worth timing with a high tide to experience the full power of the waves or “boiling pots” crashing into the rocky cliffs.

The rest of your day can be spent at one of Lanzarote’s beautiful beaches inside Los Ajaches Natural Park. Often seen as one of the best shores in Spain, the Papagayo beaches are a must-see for your journey. Silky golden sands, turquoise waters and towering cliffs sheltering from the winds provide the perfect spot for soaking up the sunshine. While the amazing views of Fuerteventura´s sandy dunes on the horizon are worth hopping in the car and making the trip for!
