Europe boasts some of the most strikingly diverse coastlines in the world, which means you are spoilt for choice when it comes to top beaches. It can be tricky to know where to start when choosing your holiday destination, so we have put together this handy guide to the best beaches in Europe to help you out.

European Beaches

Cala en Turqueta, Spain

The Spanish Balearic Islands are perennially popular amongst holidaymakers from all over the world, and particularly the UK, and it’s not hard to see why. Menorca is a favourite with extreme sports enthusiasts, with the windy conditions of the north coast creating the perfect conditions for windsurfing.

If you prefer life at a slower pace, however, then head to the south coast in the direction of the Cala en Turqueta beach. The shallow waters make it ideal for paddling with little ones, whilst the pristine white sand cannot be beaten for lounging in the sun.

La Pelosa, Italy

Sardinia is one of the most beautiful islands in the world, and is a favourite of sun seekers everywhere. Stintino to the north of the island is a charming little seaside town, with pastel-coloured houses that are offset against the impossibly blue sky.

The main draw to Stintino, however, is its remarkably beautiful beach, La Pelosa. The setting of this beach is second to none, with its Saracen tower just off the coast and the islands of Piana and Asinara seen in the distance. The white sands and shallow crystalline waters make it the perfect spot for the whole family to enjoy.

European Beaches

Myrtos Beach, Greece

Of all the Greek Islands, Kefalonia is often hailed as one of the most beautiful. The setting of the famous novel, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, it’s easy to get swept away by the romance of the island.

Myrtos Beach, located on the sheltered northwestern side of the island, frequently features highly amongst the best beaches in the world, so it is well worth a visit. Follow the winding coastal path down to the beach, taking in the stunning view of the azure sea below. Spend the rest of the day in paradise, alternating between basking in the sun’s warmth and swimming in the sparkling waters.

Ramla Bay, Gozo

A short ferry ride from Malta will take you to the small neighbouring island of Gozo. Steeped in history and legend, including being home of the nymph Calypso from Homer’s Odyssey, you will find plenty of things to keep you busy during your holiday.

Xaghra, Gozo’s oldest village, is the perfect setting to disappear from the rest of the world. Get lost down the pretty cobbled streets, before heading to the golden sands of Ramla Bay. Here you can while away the hours reading a book on your sun lounger, or head into the waters for a swim or a spot of snorkelling.

Praia da Falesia, Portugal

Portugal’s Algarve remains one of the most popular destinations in the country for good reason. With miles and miles of soft, golden sands, set against striking orange cliffs, there are few places to rival the natural beauty of the Algarve.

Albufeira is a popular city, both for its nightlife and its stunning beaches, with 25 to choose from! The best beach as far as we’re concerned, has got to be Praia da Falesia. The sands seem to stretch on forever beneath the endless blue sky, giving you plenty of space for sunbathing and paddling in the crystal clear waters.
