Our Favourite Villas for 2016

If variety is the spice of life, then it must be pretty darn hot over here at James Villas. With a whopping 2500+ villas in our collection, in 5 years of working here, I can’t claim to have seen them all. Our in-house Product team can however, as they have the rather enviable job of going out to more than 50 destinations and visiting and handpicking each and every one of them. I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating… My single favourite thing about villa holidays is not the private pool or the great interior and alfresco spaces (although don’t get me wrong, those are pretty fantastic), but the fact that every villa is unique in terms of its location, décor, offering and character. So just how do you go about finding that perfect individual villa out of a collection of so many? It’s a nice dilemma to have, but maybe I can save you a job hunting if I just ask our Product pros themselves which villas are their favourites for 2016.

Villa Casa Grande – Tenerife

Villa Casa Grande

The year round Tenerife sun, heated pool and plush outdoor lounging area of Casa Grande give new meaning to term “great outdoors”.

“Villa Casa Grande ticks every box for me. The décor is bright, fun and stylish and the pool is heated free of charge in the winter months. The pièce de résistance though is the covered terrace dining area with outdoor sofas, because in the Canaries you can and should be outdoors for most of the year! Top it off with great sea views down into the valley of Playa Fanabe and a 10 minute drive to the popular Siam waterpark.” – Lee

Casa Playa – Costa del Sol

“I love Casa Playa – inside it’s really stylishly fitted out, has a great Bluetooth speaker stereo system and the freeform is pool soooo lovely. But it’s the location that really makes it, within walking distance to the beach, another communal pool, children’s play area, supermarket and restaurants. Being so close to Puerto Banus and San Pedro, it really has something for all the family.” – Ebonie

Nikos – Cyprus

Villa Nikos

We love the stunning pool at Villa Nikos, surrounded by a spacious sun terrace and barbecue area for alfresco living.

“Quite simply one of the best pools I’ve ever swum in (and I’ve swum in many villa pools!). For family or friends, Nikos has a great outdoor area with a good barbecue and covered dining area right beside the pool! Perfect for lazy days and nights.” – Jo

Casa Jardim – Costa Verde

Casa Jardim is one of my favourites – I’ve never seen a villa with so many games facilities! It has a tennis court, football goals, volleyball net, table tennis, a pool table and a mini-cinema area!” – Ally

Doretta – Zakynthos

“This is a classic villa and great for families looking to get away from it all, but with lots of entertainment on offer besides. It’s homely and modern with table tennis, table football and a pool table, but the ‘wow’ for me has to be the elevated setting on olive grove hills with views across the countryside out to sea.” – Rob

Mercedes – Andalucia

Villa Mercedes

The views and sunsets around Villa Mercedes are really something else.

“The first time I arrived at Villa Mercedes, I was just blown away by the magical views from the villa. It’s got a large swimming pool where you can take them all in, and the sunsets are incredible – this is definitely the best treat you could wish for. The amazing built-in barbecue makes for perfect al fresco meals in what is a simply beautiful setting.” – Caroline

Villa La Lespa – Tuscany

Villa La Lespa

This beautiful farmhouse property sits in the heart of the Tuscan countryside.

Villa La Lespa is one of my favourites. It’s a very impressive farmhouse situated in the stunning Tuscan countryside, close to a National Park, with fantastic views over a small lake. It’s beautifully furnished and has a billiards room and large swimming pool.” – Lee

L’Olivar – Mallorca

L’Olivar is a top class family villa with a modern-rustic vibe. I love the aspect overlooking the Pollensa countryside – the covered terrace with built in barbecue overlooks the swimming pool and offers great panoramic views, as well as a relaxing spot during the heat of the day, or relative cool of the evenings. There’s table tennis, so lots to keep everyone happy at the villa, but it’s also in a lovely part of Mallorca with endless things to do.” – Mark

Ouranos – Skopelos

“I’ve stayed in Villa Ouranos with my family and it has a number of fantastic points. The first is wonderful views; the second are the fabulous, welcoming owners. Finally, it’s a home from home, and has everything that you need for a self-catering holiday!” – Jo (and if you like our main picture for this article, that’s Villa Ouranos.)

Campo da Eira – Douro Valley

“I really like Campo da Eira as it’s very unique. It’s situated on an estate, hidden away, but within walking distance to the owner’s B&B, where you can arrange to have meals or do a Portuguese cooking class. The estate is made up of beautiful gardens and vineyards, and the owners are happy to do tours of both.” – Ally

Monte Mare – Cyprus

Villa Monte Mare

We really believe not a thing is missing from the amazing Monte Mare.

“Where do I start? I stayed at this luxury villa with a group of friends and although it’s really close to Coral Bay we barely left the villa, there’s just so much to do. The chillers amongst us loved the infinity pool, Jacuzzi and the outside bar and dining area with the loungey sofas, while the active bods had tennis and squash courts, basketball and the gym. The games room also had everything going – we all got a bit competitive over a few games of table tennis! Oh, and did I mention the sunsets?” – Sally

Lavanda – Algarve

Lavanda isn’t your typical Algarve villa, but it’s fantastic! Set more inland, it’s away from the hustle bustle resorts and is wonderfully private with its large garden and countryside location. The exposed brick walls are really striking, but there’s nothing rustic about it. It’s so chic and luxurious – I would love to kick back here for a week. It’s a weird thing to get excited about, but the showers in this villa look amazing!” – Katherine

Buddha – Lanzarote

Villa Buddha

With so many games facilities and extras at Buddha, you’d be forgiven for never leaving the villa during your holiday.

Buddha is a brand new luxury villa to James Villas for 2016 and I’m really excited about it! I have never seen such a high standard of villa with so many extras. It’s great to find a villa that absolutely caters to all regardless of age, and it’d be perfect for larger parties and families sharing. There’s so many mod cons, plus two bedrooms gorgeously designed for young children. There’s a great kids’ play area with climbing frame, and for big kids and kids at heart there are games consoles, a pool table, table football and table tennis. The pool is just stunning with chill out chairs, massage fountains, volleyball net and a dedicated 20 metre lap section, then there’s the air conditioned gym, sauna and a hot tub. I just can’t say enough about it.” – James

Eleni – Corfu

Villa Eleni

Can’t you just see yourself eating breakfast looking out over the bay of Kalami?

“I just love Villa Eleni’s location overlooking stunning Kalami Bay – it’s everything you’d expect from a Greek postcard. The hillside location, dining terrace and amazing infinity pool really let you make the most of the incredible views.” – Rob
